This is what happens when madness and hysteria engulf an entire City. Mayor Landrieu has now overseen the removal of four statues of significant historical significance which he and his Democrat confreres deemed “offensive” to those ultra-sensitive people who make up their base. As a lifelong resident of Louisiana, born in and having resided for a time in New Orleans, this, quite simply, and not to be too mawkish about it, breaks my heart. However, we can be consoled by the Mayor’s triumphant announcement after this last remaining vestige of hurtful history has come down that “The Civil War is now over!” The hubris represented by those actions and that pronouncement is staggering.
